Project Overview

We provided planning, preliminary design, final design, surveying, and construction inspection services on 0.5 miles of County Highway 42 (Main Street) in Blooming Prairie. The project area included a railroad crossing plus a portion of the historic downtown area. This required extensive coordination with local agencies.

Beyond Design

Our work also included the design of over 50 ADA-compliant pedestrian curb ramps. We provided the expert analysis needed to ensure the existing non-compliant facilities were replaced in conformance with current ADA guidelines and also within the constraints of the historic downtown building fronts. This building was constructed under a full closure. Pedestrian access was maintained through the project.

Community Responsibility

We gathered feedback from local users, businesses, and property owners at three public open house meetings over the course of the project. The County and the City wanted to let residents vote on street light styles and sidewalk treatments for their remodelled downtown area. We created large displays that showed examples of each option, plus provided special voting cards that attendees could use to cast their votes. Residents appreciated the opportunity to provide this input, and we received positive feedback on the custom displays and voting process.
